LOS ANGELES, 10/13/2024  –  As many of you may be aware, US Soccer is currently contemplating a significant change to the birth year registration system, potentially shifting back to the August 1–July 31 format. This decision has been under discussion for much of the year, and a final vote is expected to take place on November 22, 2024.

We understand the uncertainty this brings, and I want to assure you that the DPL has been in constant communication with our sanctioning body, USSSA, as well as key leaders in other sanctioning organizations. Over the past two weeks, we have facilitated several discussion groups to gather input and prepare for the potential implications of this change. While the decision will ultimately be made by US Soccer, the implementation could vary across sanctioning bodies. Our focus remains on ensuring that our league is prepared, regardless of the outcome.

As we approach the US Soccer vote, we will continue to review this matter closely with USSSA and provide timely updates to you. We are fully committed to communicating any relevant information as soon as possible, ensuring that all our members are well-informed and prepared for any changes.

Looking ahead, we are already planning upgrades to our programming for the 2025/26 season. These enhancements will provide new opportunities for both our current member clubs and the many clubs that have shown interest in joining the DPL. We are excited to announce that the league will be expanding its offerings in 2025 to further enhance the experience for players, teams, and clubs, ensuring that we continue to lead in player development and competition.

While we eagerly await the final decision from US Soccer, I encourage all of our member clubs to be proactive and prepare for multiple scenarios. Regardless of the outcome, we will adapt and provide clear guidance to help navigate any transition smoothly.

We look forward to moving the DPL forward with you and will communicate more specific details about the new programs and opportunities as soon as possible.

Thank you for your continued commitment and support.

Sincerely,

Barry Ritson
