The DPL Announces the Structure & Qualification for the 2023 National Championships.

LOS ANGELES, CA (October 29th, 2022) – In an effort to ensure the DPL National Championships provide purposeful and memorable opportunities for our members inline with our league mission we are proud to announce a new structure and qualification process for this years event, to be held in Butler County, Ohio from June 27 – July 2nd, 2023.

The DPL will expand the number of teams qualifying for the event from 16 in each group to 24 for the U13-17 and reduce it to 12 teams for U19. This is based on feedback from last season from the participating clubs and to ensure there are ample opportunities for teams to qualify through their conference play. With our league expansion we understood the qualification process needed to be updated to get fair representation from each conference, we had to expand the number of teams that could qualify.

In addition, we have extended the opportunities to earn a place in a Championship Final Game by creating 2 pathways to a National Championship. The top 16 teams will be placed at the “Super Group” level, with the remaining 8 teams being placed at the “Championship” level, with both levels competing for a National Championship. The winner of the Championship level will also receive and automatic spot in the Summit for the following season. By doing this we have given the lower seeded teams an opportunity to have a more purposeful and memorable experience while being able to complete our National Championships within one 6-day event. The alternative to split the Playoffs and Finals into 2 separate events and ultimately extend our season into Mid-July was decided against by our leadership due to feedback from some of our conference reps. At the U19 age group there will be only 1 level of competition, the “Super Group”.

Teams will qualify for the 2023 Finals through their conference performances and any open spots will be decided by wildcards earned through a combination of Conference and Event Results. The allocation of spots are designated as below:
